We've reviewed our travel advice for Portugal. We haven't changed the level, exercise normal safety precautions. All COVID-19 travel restrictions for entry into Portugal have been removed, and face masks are no longer required (see 'Travel' and 'Health'). World Youth Day will be held in Lisbon, Fatima and surrounding areas in early August. You can expect significant congestion and possible delays during this period (see 'Travel'). Unknown restrictions for travel
    1. Until 30 April 2021, passengers are not allowed to enter.
  • This does not apply to:
- nationals of Portugal and their family members;
- residents of Portugal;
- nationals of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland (Rep.), Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland, and their family members;
- passengers with a long term visa issued by Portugal;
- passengers arriving from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, China (People's Rep.), Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong (SAR China), Hungary, Iceland, Ireland (Rep.), Italy, South Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macao (SAR China), Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, Rwanda, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland or Thailand;
- passengers with a residence permit issued by Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland (Rep.), Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain or Sweden, returning via Portugal to their country of residence;
- passengers with a long term visa issued by Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland (Rep.), Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain or Sweden, returning via Portugal to their country of residence.
    1. A completed electronic "Passenger Locator Card (PLCe)" must be presented upon boarding. The form can be found at https://portugalcleanandsafe.pt/en/passenger-locator-card .
      Passengers entering or transiting through Portugal must have a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result. The test must have been taken at most 72 hours before departure of the last direct flight to Portugal.
  • This does not apply to:
- passengers younger than 2 years;
- passengers traveling on a direct flight to Azores or Madeira.
  1. Passengers traveling on a direct flight to Azores must have a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result. The test must have been taken at most 72 hours before departure.
- This does not apply to passengers younger than 12 years.
    1. Passengers traveling on a direct flight to Madeira without a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result of a test taken at most 72 hours before departure are subject to an RT-PCR test upon arrival and quarantine until test results are ready.
  • This does not apply to:
- passengers younger than 12 years;
- passengers with a COVID-19 recovery certificate issued at most 90 days before arrival;
- passengers with a COVID-19 vaccination certificate.
  1. Passengers traveling to Azores must:
- complete a "Health Form upon arrival at the Azores" and a "Draft statement for inter-island travel" upon arrival; or
- submit a "Questionnaire for Risk Assessment and Early Detection" before departure at https://mysafeazores.com/ .
  1. Passengers traveling to Madeira must complete an epidemiological survey before departure at https://madeirasafe.com/#/login . This will generate a QR code which must be presented upon arrival.
    Passengers arriving from Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, France, Hungary, Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, South Africa or Sweden must register at https://travel.sef.pt/Forms/Default.aspx before departure.
    Passengers are subject to medical screening.
    Passengers could be subject to quarantine for 14 days.
    National ID cards issued to nationals of Portugal which have expired on 24 February 2020 or later are considered valid until 31 December 2021.
